Abstract

Title: Overcoming Institutional Barriers for Social Benefit
Author: Joseph P Lane
Published: 2006
Publication: The Association of University Technology Managers, Orlando, FL

Successful practitioners present “How To” examples for addressing classic barriers related to models (academic vs. business), methods (supply push vs. demand pull), and metrics (revaluing presumed niche markets).  Attendees are encouraged to share specific issues for deliberation by this experienced panel.   Presenters provide University Technology Managers with case-based examples for overcoming three key barriers inherent in university environments.  The three barriers are: 1) academic research models in a business development context; 2) supply push orientation in a demand pull environment; and 3) mass market bias in niche opportunities.  Examples from the field will demonstrate how to achieve success.
