Title: Surviving the Darwinian Sea:  Evolutionary Adaptations among the Fittest
Author: Joseph P Lane, Stephen M Bauer, James A Leahy

Publication: Technology Transfer Society 24th Annual Meeting, Albany, NY

The paper overlays the metaphor of a “Darwinian Sea” on an existing framework for charting the entire technology transfer process, from initial conception of the innovation, through prototype iterations of the invention, and on through the final design suitable for mass-production.  The metaphor is applied to illustrate “best” practices applied by technology forces on one side, market forces on the other side, and those who support the transition in between.  The examples draw upon a decade of participant/observation within one particular industry sector, although the lessons have general application.
