This paper is a case study on the development of a new product using assistive
technology, and the consumer evaluation and the licensing of that technology
by a manufacturer through Aztech, Inc., a company specializing in the commercialization
of assistive technologies based on consumer input. The product is called
the Reversible Toilet/Transfer Attachment and is available through Maddak,
Inc., a manufacturer and marketer of aids for daily living. The original
prototype submitted to Aztech was a standard toilet seat with handgrips attached.
