The Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center on Technology Transfer (T2RERC) and Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center on Wheeled Mobility (WM-RERC) continue to work together to introduce new and innovative technology into wheeled mobility products. Their "Stakeholder's Forum on Wheeled Mobility", conducted in late May, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, focused on four technology areas: manual wheelchair propulsion; wheelchair materials and components; power management and monitoring; and motors and drive-trains. Participants identified specific areas where additional dialogue among
the stakeholders was warranted. In response, the WM-RERC developed a listserve and
threaded discussion pages:

This "virtual" extension of the "face-to-face" meetings at the Forum will expand into five areas: 1) Improved wheelchair tires, 2) Manual propulsion and geared hubs, 3) Wheelchair batteries, 4) Wheelchair motors and drive trains, 5) Wheelchair power management and monitoring. These discussion groups provide a direct channel to the knowledge,
experience, information and opinions of your fellow stakeholders. This is an open
invitation for all to contribute to the flow of ideas in the discussion groups.
Your comments may also assist the researchers, engineers and scientists who are
developing technology solutions. To participate in the discussion groups and review
background information on both the Stakeholder's Forum and Project go to: [ Top of Page ] |
